A HUGE Thank You

MILFORD, PA – November 3, 2016 – Calling All Angels Mission – along with the Ecumenical Food Pantry of Pike County, Pike County Hands of Hope, and Pike County Humane Society – will be hosting our 2nd Annual Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Event, November 12, 2016, to be held at Jen Murphy Fitness Studio in Milford, PA.

The event is to raise awareness for hunger and homelessness problems here in Pike County, the surrounding areas and across our country. It will also raise funds for the hosting organizations so they can keep doing what they are doing to help our neighbors in need.

And now word comes from the North Pole that Santa himself may be stopping in.

“Santa is really very busy starting this time of year,” a spokesman for the jolly fellow told the organizers of the event. “But it is possible Santa may be able to make the event. He is a friend to the people at Calling All Angels and thinks highly of all the work they do.”

Santa has since acknowledged he will be coming, and he will be available for pictures so attendees will be able to get their Christmas cards all ready in time to mail out before those all important post office deadlines. Donations for Santa time are greatly appreciated but not necessary.

Speakers from the hosting organizations will be talking about everything from the food insecurity members of our community face to what happens to the pets when a family becomes homeless.

Music will be provided by Adam Zajac, Mark Ferguson, Mr Lenny Miller, Olivia Zinn and Matthew King, as well as possibly one or two more performers. Charlie Reynolds will be debuting a new song written just for the event (as he did last year with the song My Story, Your Story).

There will be food (including some desserts to be donated by the Pâtisserie Fauchère and pizza from John's of Arthur Avenue). Organizers are still looking for local businesses to possibly donate some of the food, snacks and beverages. Otherwise, as we did last year, the Mission will supply food for the evening.

A raffle will be held with items we have set aside in the thrift shop. Tickets will be $5 and $1 each, and the items being raffled include a first edition Irish book of poetry and oratory, an original piece of artwork specifically created for this event by a local artist named Raven, a tapestry, a gift certificates from the Milford Diner, 84 Country Store and Zosia's, as well as other works of art. A call has gone out for items to be donated for this raffle as well, so there may be more items.

There will be speakers, stories and a frank discussion on how to recognize and combat the difficulties of homelessness and food insecurity facing our nation, our state, our communities. Invitations to our state and local representatives have gone out. Hopefully we can all get together and solve these issues. Neighbors helping neighbors.

As of the writing of this press release, we will be partnering again with the Ecumenical Food Pantry, the Pike County Humane Society and Pike County Hands of Hope.

Tickets for the event are available at the door for a suggested donation of $10. (Unexpired food and clothing/blankets will be accepted in lieu of the monetary price of admission. As an awareness raising event, we are more interested in getting information out there).

“If someone cannot afford the $10, we do not want this to keep them from coming”, says Mission Secretary and event organizer Charles Reynolds. “They can bring some items or unexpired food items, in lieu of the cash. Or if they can't afford it at all, just come. The more people understand the situations their neighbors face, that the 'face' of hunger and homelessness has changed. In order to find solutions to these tragic situations people in our communities face, we need to understand the 'why'.”

We will also be accepting donations for the organizations involved on the night of the event – a bag of clothes, a box of food (not expired canned or dry goods) or some blankets. The event will be held November 12 from 6:30-9:30 PM at Jen Murphy Fitness Studio located at 113 W Harford Street in Milford, PA.

At this time we would like to thank and acknowledge some people and businesses who have been generous in their support. The Pâtisserie Fauchère, John's of Arthur Avenue, Zosia's European Skin Care Spa, The Milford Diner, 84 Country Store, Gary and Janine Zinn, and all the musicians who will be performing.

For more information, to find ways of volunteering for this or other events, or to make a donation of cash or food or raffle items, contact Charles at the thrift shop either by phone (570-409-6055) or email ( Or simply stop by the shop at 611 Broad Street in Milford, PA.
